A Place at the Table

By Tomi Moralez, Associate

I will admit, at first I was hesitant to join 1910 PR.

I knew it was different from any class I had taken before, but once I was a part of the team, I saw how impactful something different could be.

All the skills I had acquired from previous classes like Media Design, Media Writing and Basic Photography were of use to me in 1910 PR.

Prior to 1910, I had not really worked on a team with the same goals or mission, but here I found a group of individuals who wanted to not only better themselves but others as well.

By far, my biggest take away was the people I had the opportunity to meet and work with in 1910 PR.

There were many moments where I had to step out of my comfort zone, but my team and the amazing directors leading the team assured me that my work was worthy, and even when I needed to improve, they made me aware of the steps necessary to grow.

From writing news releases to designing graphics, I learned many valuable things being a part of the 1910 team that I know I will take with me and use in my career.

I am grateful for all the experiences and opportunities 1910 gave me, like having the opportunity to design a graphic for the Distinguished Lecture Series that featured Steve Burns, the original host of Blue’s Clues and even getting to meet him later.

In 1910, I was given a place at the table. My teammates saw me for who I was and acknowledged what I brought to the table, and that is something I will take with me wherever I go. #growth #learning #teamwork #BetterTogether #BluesClues #writing #designing
