Weathering the Storms of Change in PR

By Madilyn Immel, Account Executive

Public relations is a field that is always evolving, with new trends, techniques, and technologies emerging. Relying on the same method year after year is simply ineffective. It is a lot harder to hit a moving target that is getting further away than one you move along side of.

PR professionals must embrace change as an opportunity to learn by possessing a growth mindset, always seeking to expand their skills and knowledge. It is a skill to notice the change in the world of PR enough to respond. With new technology and the rise of social media, PR teams have noticed the need to be adept at handling crises swiftly and transparently in the public eye. There is always something new to be learned.

PR changes with the weather, literally in some cases. Airbnb's rapid response and support for hosts and guests during natural disasters showcased their commitment to community and earned positive news coverage. This campaign gives an example of how to grow with change. PR professionals do not only adapt to survive change but adapt to prosper in connection and community.

While it may be tempting to cling to familiar strategies that have yielded results in the past, long-term success in PR is reflected by willingness to adapt and evolve. By embracing change, remaining open-minded, and constantly expanding their skill set, PR professionals can keep up with their moving targets and hit them with accuracy and efficiency.
